What Are the Latest Green Building Standards?
Tuesday, November 18, 2008

3:00 p.m. (Eastern Time)
$139 per logged on computer

FSC vs. SFI, LEED vs. NAHM, and LEED vs. Green Globes - These are just some of the conflicting, confusing standards out there today. After you sort those out, then you can dive into the third-party rating agencies, like Greenguard, SCS, and Green Seal. Then, move onto the carpet and paint rating agencies. It's a confusing landscape of organization - some industry sponsored, some government, and some independent.

This presentation will sort them all out, with a detailed look at the standards as they break out to certify professionals, houses and products.

Welcome to EBMDA

This Association was established to foster, protect and promote the welfare and best interest of its members engaged in the retail lumber and building materials business; to operate in a legal and ethical manner; to create, develop, and maintain sound management techniques to acquire, preserve, develop and disseminate all pertinent and proper information, greater knowledge through education, and modern marketing practices related to, and helpful to, this industry; to encourage the use of just and equitable selling principles, high standards of service and integrity, and a code of ethics designed to create better understanding and relationships among its members; to help its members and all other interested parties in promoting a better understanding of the American Competitive Free Enterprise System.

This is the first paragraph of the bylaws of EBMDA, a 115-year-old non-profit trade association, representing building material dealers and their associates in Washington, DC, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

EBMDA members are independent or employee-owned retail building material firms with sales ranging from $1 million to over $100 million. Control and policy of EBMDA is set by 33 volunteer dealer leaders who staff 4 working boards, Eastern Retirement Trust (ERT), Eastern States Management Services (ESMS), Eastern Building Material Dealers Education Foundation (EBMDEF), and EBMDA.
